Prince Edward Island, March 20, 2025 – The inaugural Glucose Grind 65KM Endurance Run is set to take place on June 28, 2025, bringing together runners, walkers, and supporters to raise funds for PEI seniors living with diabetes. This initiative, organized in partnership with the Community Foundation of PEI, will ensure that all donations go directly toward helping seniors who struggle to afford medical supplies, nutrition, and other essential resources for managing their diabetes.
The event is spearheaded by Geoff Kowalski, who understands firsthand the “grind” of living with diabetes and utilizes distance running to help control his blood sugars. “I’m fortunate to have access to the care and resources I need, but many seniors in our community aren’t as lucky,” says Kowalski. “Too many folks living with diabetes want to improve their condition but may not have the resources to eat often or healthy enough, test their blood sugars daily, or use sterile equipment. It’s our hope that our efforts will help with some of those barriers.”
The Glucose Grind is a 65KM endurance run from Kensington to downtown Charlottetown, but participation is open to everyone, at any level. There are no expectations for distance or speed - whether participants choose to run the full 65 km, split it into a team, walk, jog, or bike a portion of the route, exercise in their own community, or simply donate and spread awareness, every contribution matters.
"This is really about coming together as a community. We’re still finalizing many details for event day, and we welcome any and all support,” adds Kowalski. “If you're interested in volunteering, sponsoring, or getting involved in any way, we’d love to hear from you."
