The provincial government has put plans to establish a supervised injection site on hold. That was the word Wednesday from Chief Public Health Officer Dr. Heather Morrison as she appeared before the legislative committee on health and social development. Dr. Morrison told the committee that the province’s harm reduction initiatives appear to be preventing further increases in opioid-related overdose deaths on the Island. So, the province is pausing plans to establish a supervised injection site and will instead continue work to strengthen its harm reduction initiatives. That includes the continued expansion of the provincial take-home naloxone program.
