Statistics Canada released the December jobs figures on Friday, and they show PEI’s unemployment rate in December was 8.5 percent. That’s up from 8.0 percent in November.
Meanwhile, the national economy added 91-thousand jobs in December.
That shatters economists’ expectations as Statistics Canada says the bulk of new jobs came in education, transportation, and finance.
Full-time employment rose by 56-thousand.
The unemployment rate dropped 0.1 percentage points to 6.7 per cent.
