Heaven On High N won Gold Cup & Saucer Trial #3 Monday night at Red Shores Racetrack and Casino at the Charlottetown Driving Park. Brett MacDonald did the driving as they stopped the clock in 1:52.3. Larry Karr finished second and Rocks Shining Star was third as they also advanced to the Gold Cup and Saucer Final on Saturday, joining previous qualifiers Save America, American History, Binge on Yankee, Fortify, Covered Bridge, and Twin B Tuffenuff. Live racing continues Tuesday night at 6 P.M. featuring the Atlantic Sires Stakes for two and three-year-old trotters.
Jessica Pegula defeated Amanda Anisimova 6-3, 2-6, 6-1 to win her second straight National Bank Open women’s singles title in Toronto. Alexei Popyrin of Australia won the men’s title with a 6-2, 6-4 win over Andrey Rublev.
The UPEI Women’s Hockey Panthers are heading to Europe to play four games in three countries later this month. The Panthers will play their first game against HYC in Belgium on August 23rd. Then they will play games in the Netherlands and Iceland. Head coach Sean Fisher says the trip has been in the works for a year and a half, and is an important team-building and cultural opportunity for the players as they begin their new season. To help cover the expenses of the trip, the team is hosting a sold-out golf tournament this week.
