On Tuesday night, Premier Dennis King announced that the District 19 Borden Kinkora byelection will be held on February 5th. Elections PEI says that Advance Polls will be held on Saturday, January 27th; Monday, January 29th; and Friday, February 2nd from 9am to 7pm each of those days. Mail-in ballot applications are available on the Elections PEI website until Tuesday, January 23rd at 6pm.
The Progressive Conservative nomination was won Tuesday night by Carmen Reeves of Shamrock. Matt MacFarlane is the Green Party candidate, while Karen Morton is the candidate for the Island NDP. The Liberal Party set a deadline of 4:30pm Wednesday (January 10th) for potential candidates for the Liberal nomination for District 19. The Liberals had planned to hold the nomination meeting Wednesday night, but postponed the meeting because of the weather. Searletown resident Gordon Sobey has announced that he is seeking the Liberal nomination. Sobey is a former president of the PEI Federation of Agriculture.
