The RCMP and Charlottetown Police, among other police departments, are taking part in Operation Impact during the Thanksgiving weekend across PEI.
It’s aimed at making Canada’s roads among the safest in the world by promoting safe driving behaviours and preventing collisions, saving lives and reducing injuries.
Police will be focusing on impaired drivers by alcohol or drugs, aggressive driving, distracted driving and those who are not wearing seat belts.
This year’s campaign focuses on the accountability and role of each driver has to play to support traffic safety.
Each year, about 2,000 Canadians die in traffic collisions and 165,000 are injured with about 10,000 suffering serious injuries.
