Charlottetown native Billy MacMillan, who starred in the NHL as a player before becoming a coach, died overnight on Friday after being admitted into the QEH. MacMillan played for Toronto, Atlanta and the New York Islanders in the 1970s before becoming head coach of the expansion Colorado Rockies after winning the Stanley Cup with the Islanders as an assistant coach. He was also a Memorial Cup champion and won a bronze medal with Canada at the Olympics. He also was a member of the Canadian university silver medalist Saint Dunstan’s Saints in 1965 and coached UPEI to an Atlantic championship in 1991. Bill is a member of the PEI Sports Hall of Fame. Funeral arrangements will be announced.
