Some Island fishermen have been told by DFO to pull in their traps with a pair of endangered North Atlantic Right Whales seen on the north shore in the Gulf of St. Lawrence near Alberton. The order came down on Friday and affects a portion of Lobster Fishing Area 24 from Tignish to New London.
That has prompted a 15-day closure which began Friday.
DFO will monitor the siting of the whale over the next 9 to 15 days. If whales are seen in the area, the area could remain closed until November 15th. It will reopen if there are no sightings.
