PEI Liberal MLA Gord McNeilly says thousands of Islanders and their children are living in households that can’t afford the food they need. He says that results in meals being skipped and in some cases people going days without food. McNeilly points to a Stats Can report that says food insecurity rates have risen to 23.6% in the province, the highest in Canada. McNeilly says 35.1% of Island children are living in these conditions prompted by high inflation. The MLA says this leads to serious health problems and needs to be addressed by the King government. He says the government has not invested enough and must do a better job.
