Firefighters from 6 departments – Morell, Souris, East River, Georgetown, St. Peters, and Cardigan – all battled a forest fire Monday along Lakeside Road in West St Peters near the Links at Crowbush Cove.
The Morell Fire Department responded initially but called in for help after the fire, with the gusty winds, jumped across the road and continued to spread. There was concern because the fire neared a propane tank used for the Resort’s restaurant. Firefighters were challenged by the strong winds but managed to get it under control by late afternoon. The fire burned about 7 acres, but there were no injuries.
It’s not clear how the fire started.
