This is the annual National Day of Mourning, and Islanders are encouraged to show support for all those who have been affected by workplace fatality or injury. The Day of Mourning originated in Canada in 1984 and is observed in more than one hundred countries world-wide.
The day honours the memory of those who have died or suffered serious injury while on the job and raises awareness of the importance of workplace safety. There will be a Day of Mourning Ceremony hosted by PEI Federation of Labour tonight at 7:00 p.m. at St. Paul’s Hall on Prince St. in Charlottetown
