There are over 3,000 Public Service Alliance workers in PEI who are on strike. They’ll be back on the picket lines on Monday.
The number on strike includes 15-hundred PSAC employees who work for the Canada Revenue Agency and 16-hundred who are employed in other departments under the Treasury Board.
Picket lines have been up at the Jean Canfield Building and around Ellis Brothers Mall in Charlottetown. Also at Service Canada in Montague and Summerside and the Tax Centre on Pope Road in Summerside along with Fisheries and Oceans in Tignish.
Many services Canadians depend on are being disrupted by the strike.
The PSAC strike began last Thursday. The union is seeking at 13.5 per cent wage increase over three years.
The federal labour board revealed last week that only 35 per cent of over 100-thousand members took part in the vote to declare a strike. The board says PSAC failed to properly let members know it had shortened the voting period moving the deadline from April 19 to April 11. It says just over 38-thousand took part in the vote. 80 per cent were in favour of a strike mandate.
