Premier Dennis King presented his new cabinet on Friday at Confederation Centre as Lt. Governor Antoinette Perry swore in each member.
The cabinet grows to 12 members including four women, a record for the province.
There are five new faces in cabinet.
Gilles Arsenault as minister of economic development, innovation and trade and minister responsible for Acadian and Francophone Affairs.
Jill Burridge becomes minister of finance.
Rob Lantz is minister of housing, land and communities.
Barb Ramsay is minister of social development and seniors.
Jenn Redmond is minister of workforce, advance learning and population.
Five ministers get new portfolios.
Mark McLane is minister of health and wellness.
Bloyce Thompson assumes being deputy premier, and becomes minister of agriculture, justice and public safety and attorney general.
Cory Deagle becomes minister of fisheries, sport and culture.
Ernie Hudson, who was health minister is now minister of transportation and infrastructure.
Natalie Jameson will remain education minister and early learning and minister responsible for the status of women.
Steven Myers remains minister of environment, energy and climate action.
Three members are out of cabinet including Matthew MacKay, Jamie Fox and Darlene Compton.
Premier Dennis King will continue his role as president of the executive council, intergovernmental affairs and Indigenous relations.
The Premier also announced plans for the government’s senior management team with the appointment of eight deputy ministers:
- Erin McGrath-Gaudet to serve as Deputy Minister of Workforce, Advanced Learning & Population;
- Bethany MacLeod to serve as Deputy Minister of Education & Early Years;
- Jamie MacDonald to serve as Deputy Minister of Housing, Land and Communities;
- Michele Koughan to serve as Deputy Minister of Fisheries, Tourism, Sport & Culture;
- Brian Matheson to serve as Deputy Minister of Agriculture;
- Jamie Aiken to serve as Deputy Minister of Economic Development, Innovation & Trade;
- Teresa Henneberry to serve as Deputy Minister of Social Development and Seniors; and
- Paul Godfrey to serve as Acting Deputy Minister of Transportation & Infrastructure.
Bob Creed, former Deputy Minister of Transportation & Infrastructure announced his retirement earlier this month and is retiring after three decades of public service.
