Those people expecting to give birth in Prince County are advised that Prince County Hospital will have reduced anesthesia coverage from 8 a.m. Friday to 8 a.m. Saturday. Due to the reduced coverage, the PCH obstetrical team will be present for assessment and evaluation of those expecting to give birth, but no anesthesia services will be available. When possible, deliveries will be diverted to Queen Elizabeth Hospital for patient safety and the potential need for anesthesia. In those cases, transportation and supports will be arranged. Patients can go directly to QEH on their own if they prefer, and they can safely do so. Patients who need services that require anesthesia, such as traumas, will be sent to the QEH directly.
