The provincial government says it’s willing to offer support in another round of mediation on a new contract between the UPEI Faculty Association and the university. The two sides have agreed. The Faculty Association strike is now into Day 17. The strike began on March 20th.
Both the sides have expressed interest in having Michelle Flaherty to be reappointed as the mediator as she worked with both parties earlier this year and is aware of the items in the dispute.
The UPEI Student Union has also reached out to the university expressing its support of mediation.
UPEI says it looks forward to the mediation process and reaching an agreement to allow students to return to class as quickly as possible.
The school administration is working to focus on the concerns of the students. UPEI says it can reimburse students once the strike is over and both cost and savings can be calculated.
International students want their credits and don’t want to lose money as they pay double what a domestic student pays for tuition.
Meantime, the Faculty Association is planning a Super Pickett and Rally from noon to 2.00 this afternoon at the main entrance at UPEI on University Ave.
The University of Regina Faculty Association is standing with the UPEIFA showing solidarity for better working conditions. Regina Faculty member Kate Cushon visited the picket line yesterday and delivered a message of support.
