The Charlottetown Islanders season is over. The Quebec Remparts completed a four game sweep in the first round of the Q playoffs, dropping the Isles, 5-1. Quebec led 2-0 early and didn’t look back. Pier-Olivier Roy a goal and two assists. Kiefer Lyons scored the only Islander goal.
The Edmundston Blizzard edged the Summerside Western Capitals, 2-1 to begin the North final in the Maritime Jr. Hockey League. Philippe Collette and Patrick Leblanc gave the Blizzard a 2-0 lead into the 3rd period. Trent Crane scored midway through the third for the Caps. Game 2 is tonight in northern New Brunswick.
The Alberton Regals evened the PEI U18 final with a 5-2 win over the Kings County Kings. Denver Arsenault had the game winner in the second. Matt Hackett and Ethan Gallant put it away in the third.
Calgary got by Winnipeg, 3-1 in the NHL. Jacob Markstrom made 35 saves. Andrew Mangipane had a goal and assist. The two times are tied with 89 points in the West but Winnipeg has more wins and holds the second wild card spot.
Edmonton is point back of first place Las Vegas in the West. The Oilers dropped Anaheim, 3-1. Connor McDavid had an assist and is 2 points away from 150.
The NY Rangers doubled Tampa Bay, 6-3. Chris Kreider and Tyler Motte had two goals each.
Canada shutout Switzerland, 4-0 to begin the World Women’s hockey championship.
The Boston Celtics held off the Toronto Raptors, 97-93 in the NBA, Pascal Siakam had 28 points and 11 rebounds.
The Masters begins today in Augusta, Georgia. Defending champion Scottie Scheffler and Rory McIIroy are among the favourites. Tiger Woods is in his 25th Masters. Tiger has won the green jacket five times.
Holland Colleges Athletes of the Year have been announced for 2022-23.
The winners are Morgan White of Charlottetown from the Hurricanes volleyball team and men’s soccer team star Mohammad Ali from Syria.
The Toronto Blue Jays blanked the Kansas City Royals, 3-0 behind the pitching of Alek Manoah and Vladimir Guerrero Jr.’s first homer this season. Manoah went 7 innings allowing just a hit and 5 strikeouts. The Jays are 3-3.
The Tampa Bay Rays became the first team in seven seasons to go 6-0 to start the season with a 5-2 win over Washington.
Pittsburgh over Boston, 4-1. Carlos Santana homered and had an RBI double for the Pirates.
The Yankees are 4-2 after beating Philadelphia, 4-2. Jose Trevino hit a two-run homer in the 7th.
Texas also improved to 4-2 with a 5-2 win over Baltimore. Josh Jung hit a two-run homer for the Rangers.
