SUNDAY SPORTS – Kensington Wild Advances to Atlantic Major Midget Final

The Kensington Wild remains unbeaten at the Atlantic Major Midget hockey championship in Charlottetown stopping the Halifax Macs, 5-3. That gives the Wild a 4-0 mark.

Dixon MacLeod led the attack with 2 goals. Colby MacArthur scored the winner at 2.16 of the 2nd. The Macs are 3-1.

The Wild has three trophy winners in the tourney.

Colby MacArthur was named MVP, Bennett MacArthur is the top forward. Chad Arsenault won the goaltenders award.

Jacob Squires of the Pride named the top defenseman.

The two teams, Kensington and Halifax, meet again in the championship at 1.00 at the MacLauchlan Arena. The winner goes to the Telus Cup national tournament in Thunder Bay, Ontario.

The Charlottetown Pride evened its record at 2-2 with a 7-1 win over the Western Kings (NL). Declan MacEachern and Sam MacNeill both scored twice.

The Central Attack from PEI finished second at 3-1 at the Bantam Atlantics in St.Margaret’s Bay, Nova Scotia skating past the St. John’s Hitmen, 5-3. Bates Ling and Colby Huggan had two goals each. Cam Squires with 3 assists.

The Attack meets the Accel Physio in the final at 1.30 in the final. The Halifax team handed the Attack their only loss in the tournament, 4-2 on Thursday.

The Kings County Kings are 1-3 in the Pee Wee Atlantics losing 6-4 to the St..John’s Hitmen in New Glasgow, Nova Scotia. Dawson Sharkey had 3 of the 4 Kings goals.

Kings County plays the Pictou County Crushers this morning at 11.00.

The Western Wind is 2-2 in the female Midgets in Bathurst, New Brunswick.

The Wind doubled the Eastern Icebreakers, 4-2. Tianna Gallant scored the winner in the 2nd. Hilarie Gaudet had a goal and assist.

The two teams meet today in the bronze medal game.

The Western Wind was 1-3 at the Bantam female Atlantics in Clarenville(NL) losing 5-0 to Tri-Pen of Newfoundland.

The Summerside Western Capitals are on the verge of being upset in the Maritime Junior League North final.

The Campbellton Tigers took a 3-1 series lead with a 3-2 edging of the Caps, last night.

Hot goaltending has been the story for Campbellton. Tristran Gray made 31 saves in the net.

Drew Toner scored the game winner. Jared Janke added two goals.

Noah Massie and TJ Shea scored for the Caps.

Game 5 is tomorrow night in Summerside at 7.00 p.m.

The Halifax Mooseheads edged the Moncton Wild Cats, 3-2 and take a 2-0 second round series lead in the Q. Halifax was up 3-0 early in the second. Raphael Lavoie scored twice.

The Island Jr. B finals continue in Kensington tonight with the Vipers hosting the Western Red Wings who lead the series, 1-0). Game time is 7.00.

Quite a debut for rookie Ryan Poehling with the Montreal Canadiens. He scored three times and got the shootout winner as the Habs got by Toronto, 6-5.

Leon Draisaitl got his 50th as Edmonton got by Calgary, 3-1. A scary moment when Connor McDavid was knocked down on the fly and suffered a leg injury. X-Rays came back negative.

Tampa Bay finished first over all with a 6-3 victory over Boston. Steve Stamkos got his 45th.

Boston(2-8)  has lost three straight. The Red Sox were edged 5-4 in Arizona. Carson Kelly scored Nick Ahmed in the bottom of the 9th to give the D-Backs the win.

The Yankees (4-4) used a pair of Aaron Judge homers to drop Baltimore, 6-4. Clint Frazier hit a three-run homer for New York.
