Following weeks of White House hype and public anxiety, on Wednesday U-S President Donald Trump will finally announce what his barrage of self-described “reciprocal” tariffs will look like.
Trump’s new tariffs are intended to boost U-S manufacturing while punishing other countries for perceived economic inequity. He says other nations have been taking advantage of the U-S, but experts worry his risky move could do more harm than good and might plunge the U-S economy into a downturn — all while destroying decades-old alliances.
Along with the already expected reciprocal tariffs against Canada, it’s not clear if Trump’s temporary pause on separate economy-wide duties will end.
