Health P-E-I will launch a new program that will fund annual eye exams and up to three pairs of glasses for elementary school students beginning April 1st.
The program for elementary care will aim to address the increasing demand for accessible vision care for children between the ages of six and 12.
The program is in response to advocacy from Island families and health care professionals and aligns with the Canadian Association of Optometrists and its recommendation for annual eye exams for school-aged children.
Health Minister Mark McLane says annual eye exams are crucial for the early detection and management of vision problems that could impact a child’s learning ability.
