PEI R-C-M-P have conducted mandatory alcohol screening on commercial vehicle drivers crossing the Confederation Bridge. More than 100 drivers were screened for alcohol Thursday and police say there were no warnings or failed tests. The mandatory screening authorizes police to demand a breath sample from any driver, whether, or not they suspect alcohol impairment as a tool to deter impaired driving. RCMP Corporal Gavin Moore says impaired driving in PEI is one of the top three leading causes of fatal crashes, pointing to why the screenings were conducted.
