The Province says it had 41 new physician hires in 2024 for PEI’s health care system, including 13 specializing in family medicine. It adds that so far in 2025, two new physicians have been hired with early 2025 start dates.
Government says that, in all, PEI signed agreements with 43 physicians between January 1, 2024 and January 31, 2025. Of those, 31 have already started practicing, 11 are set to begin in 2025, and one will start in 2026.
The 41 physician hires for 2024 offset 20 physician departures, due to various reasons (13 retirements, 5 resignations, and two deaths).
