Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s Liberal government plans to temporarily lift the federal sales tax off a slew of items just in time for the holidays. Trudeau announced the proposed affordability measures this morning, saying a G-S-T break that would apply to toys, diapers, restaurant meals and more items would begin mid-December and last about two months. He also says his government will send 250-dollar cheques to more than 18 million Canadians this spring to help ease affordability pressures. In order to get the measures passed through Parliament, the Liberals will need the support of an opposition party — and the N-D-P appears poised to do that.
