The union for workers at Canada’s two main railways says the government is sidestepping it by ordering binding arbitration to end the countrywide rail stoppage.
The Teamsters Canada Rail Conference says the Canada Industrial Relations Board ordered it and the two railways to a virtual meeting Thursday night.
Labour Minister Steven MacKinnon asked the board to impose final, binding arbitration in the dispute and order the railways to resume operations.
Both Canadian National Railway and Canadian Pacific Kansas City say they’re preparing to get trains back on track.
