Saturday was a big night for PEI as the 35th Annual O’Brien Awards were held in Charlottetown, honouring the best in Canadian Harness racing. PEI native James MacDonald won his third consecutive Driver of the Year Award. PEI native Dr. Ian Moore was named Canada’s Trainer of the Year. PEI’s Andrew Ward was the winner of the Outstanding Groom Award. Premier Dennis King was the recipient of the Cam Fella Award for his profound impact on Standardbred horse racing. Also, Jason Hughes of Stratford was a finalist for the O’Brien Award of Horsemanship.
