Prince Edward Island is getting hit with its first storm of 2024 on Wednesday.
The entire province is under a Wind Warning with southeast winds forecast to gust to 90kh Wednesday afternoon through early evening.
That is creating some blowing snow issues as 5 to 15cm of snow is to fall, with the higher amounts being in Prince County, before turning to rain in the afternoon. About 5 to 10mm is in the forecast for the afternoon.
Due to the weather forecast, all classes in the Public Schools Branch and French Language School Board were cancelled for Wednesday; and UPEI and all Holland College locations were closed for the day.
The province announced that all provincial civil service offices in the West Prince and East Prince areas were closing at 11:30am on Wednesday.
By 12pm on Wednesday, winds in the Northumberland Strait were gusting to 125kh, forcing officials to close the Confederation Bridge to all traffic until the conditions improved.
