An advocacy group says a new study indicates that many of the female and gender-diverse candidates in the most recent provincial election faced some form of online harassment.
The P-E-I Coalition for Women in Government surveyed and interviewed 15 women and gender-diverse candidates.
Two thirds of them said they faced some form of harassment, which included name-calling and threats of physical violence.
The group says the survey is meant to be a starting point for analyzing the impact of gender-based online harassment as a barrier to women’s participation in politics.
