Summerside Police and its Major Crime Unit and Forensic Identification Section, the PEI Fire Marshal’s Office and Provincial Coroner’s Office are investigating a fatal fire in Summerside on the weekend. Fire broke out shortly after 2:30pm on Saturday in a residence on Boswell Crescent after a 9-1-1 call at approximately 2:40 pm on Saturday. Summerside Police and the Summerside Fire Department responded to the scene after getting a 9-1-1 call. Police say one man died as a result of the fire, and a second occupant of the residence was able to escape the fire through a second floor window with the help of two roofing contractors who were working on the building’s roof when the fire started. The occupant, two roofers and two police officers were all examined at hospital and later released. While the cause has not been determined, Police say it’s not believed to be the result of a criminal act.
