Only 2 days after the tragic killing of an RCMP officer in Coquitlam, BC, the annual Police and Peace Officer Memorial Service in PEI was held Sunday at Holy Redeemer Church on Pond Street in Charlottetown. On September 24, 1998 the federal government officially proclaimed the last Sunday of September of every year as Police and Peace Officers’ National Memorial Day. It’s an opportunity each year to formally express appreciation for the dedication of police and peace officers who made the ultimate tragic sacrifice to keep communities safe.
