On September 24, 1998 the federal government officially proclaimed the last Sunday of September of every year as Police and Peace Officers’ National Memorial Day. Flags are at half staff to mark the day.
It’s an opportunity each year to formally express appreciation for the dedication of police and peace officers who made the ultimate tragic sacrifice to keep communities safe. Today, at 2.00 Islanders can attend the 2023 Police and Peace Officer Memorial Service. It will be held at Holy Redeemer Church on Pond Street in Charlottetown.
