Opposition calls for removal of provincial portion of HST from new rental builds

Liberal Opposition Leader Hal Perry is calling on the provincial government to move quickly and remove the provincial portion of the Harmonized Sales Tax from new rental builds in PEI.  He says it would serve as a critical and immediate solution to address the pressing housing crisis faced by Islanders. Perry says that by removing the provincial portion of the HST from new rental builds, the government can incentivize developers to prioritize the construction of rental units, thereby increasing the housing stock available to Islanders. The Opposition Leader adds that the reduction in tax burden would make such projects more financially feasible, encouraging investment in much-needed rental housing.
