The kids came up big as the Toronto Blue Jays got by the Colorado Rockies, 7-5 to stay 1.5 out in the American League wild card race. Whit Merrifield and Ernie Clement delivered key RBI singles in the 9th. Spencer Horwitz had three hits including a homer and drove in two runs. Vladdy Jr. got his 21st homer and drove in two. Davis Schneider doubled and drove in a run.
Toronto opens a series in Oakland this evening.
Texas edged Minnesota, 6-5 as Adonis Garcia homered in the 9th. Mitch Garvey hit two homers and drove in four among his four hits. The Rangers stay ahead of the Jays and are tied with Houston in the wild card race. Both teams are one back of Seattle in the AL West.
The Mets over Seattle, 6-3. Pete Alonso homered twice and had 4 RBIs. He had 41 home runs.
The Red Sox used the long ball to drop Kansas City, 7-3. Masa Yoshida hit a three run shot and Adam Duvall hit a solo homer.
The Yankees enjoyed their first three-game sweep of the Houston Astros since 2013 at Minute Maid Park with a 6-1 victory. Rookie Jasson Dominguez hit his second home run of the weekend.
Los Angeles over Atlanta, 3-1 in the battle of the top two in the National League.
The Chicago Cubs ripped Cincinnati, 15-7.
The Cubs move 3 games up on the Reds for 2nd place in the NL Central.
The Peakes Bomber blanked the Northside Brewers, 9-0 to open the Kings County League semifinals. Ethan Smith pitched the win.
The Morell Chevies over the Cardigan Clippers, 16-7 in the other semifinal opener. Troy Coffin was the winning pitcher.
Canada advanced to the quarterfinals and qualified for the 2024 Paris Olympics by coming back twice defeating reigning champion Spain, 88-85 in the FIBA World Cup in basketball. Shae Gilgeous-Alexander led with 30 points and was in on the last 17 points for Canada in the final quarter. Canada outscored Spain, 27-12 after trailing 73-61. Canada makes the Olympics for the first time since 2000 and is 4-1 going to the playoffs.
Lithuania surprised Team USA, 110-104.
Acadia scored six goals in the second half and shutout UPEI, 7-0 in exhibition women’s soccer.
The Panthers and Acadia tied, 2-2 in the men’s game.

Stratford opens the PEI Junior Baseball championship series with the Capital City Islanders at 8.00 tonight at Memorial Field. Stratford won the deciding game in the semi-finals, 14-8 over Summerside last night to advance. Tyler Taylor had three hits and 5 RBIs.
The Charlottetown Islanders will be in Moncton on Tuesday night at 8.00 to play the Fisher Cats in New Brunswick Senior Baseball. The Islanders lead the league at 22-9 and will play in their last regular season game.
