The PEI Sports Hall of Fame oldest member has passed away at age 95. Cecil MacPhail of Bonshaw was a driving force in softball on the Island for over 50 years as a successful player, coach, manager and administrator. He was elected President of Softball PEI in 1972 and served for 20 years. During that time the game grew fast and through his direction PEI began hosting some major tournament events including the Canadian Midgets in Charlottetown in 1980, the 1983 Canadian Juniors, and the 1988 Canadian Senior men’s in Summerside. He was inducted into the PEI Sports Hall of Fame in 2003 and the Canadian Softball Hall of Fame in 1992. Funeral arrangements have not been announced.
