The Province is close to finalizing a deal to purchase Georgetown Shipyards from Cavendish Farms. The price will only be $1.00, the same as the purchase price by the Irvings in the 1990’s.
Premier Dennis King is enthused. His office says it will be a key opportunity that could be key to economic and residential growth in the town. The shipyard was booming with business in the 90s and early 2000s but that growth slowed in recent years.
Georgetown has had a rich history of ship building, dating back to the 1800’s.
