Summerside Police are investigating two scams yesterday that targeted victims saying family members were in legal trouble and money was required to get them out of jail.
In one case, the victim was on the phone with a person they thought was their grandson and withdrew money from the bank. The two victims handed over $9,000 and $8,000 to a suspect who went to their residence. Once incident took place on Lefurgey Ave. where a white female in her 30’s took the money. She wore dark coloured pants with a dark colored jacket with a hood.
The other incident saw a dark skinned woman take the money in Gavin Estates. Both suspects were described as about 5 foot 7. Police are warning seniors about this grandparent scam and those with elderly relatives should warn about such scams. Similar calls have been received by other residents in the Charlottetown area.
