One of PEI’s hockey legends has passed away at age 80. Billy MacMillan died overnight on Friday at the QEH. He played on a Memorial Cup winner with St. Michael’s in 1961 and later won the Stanley Cup with the New York Islanders in 1980 as an assistant coach. His career began with Toronto and later in Atlanta and the Islanders. MacMillan also played on Canada’s bronze medal winning team in the 1968 Winter Olympics. He was on the Atlantic Champion St. Dunstan’s Saints in 1965 and guided UPEI its last championship in 1991 as head coach. He and his brother Bobby are both members of the PEI Sports Hall of Fame. Funeral arrangements will be announced.
