Alek Manoah had a strong outing in his return to the Toronto Blue Jays in Detroit as the Jays walloped the Tigers, 12-2. Manoah spent close to a month at the Jays complex in Dunedin after having a terrible start to the season.
He came back and pitched 6 innings, allowing 5 hits, one run and striking out 8 with no walks.
Manoah entered the game with a 6.36 ERA in the first two months of the season. He says he’s in a better place mentally and physically after two minor league starts and weeks of figuring out what was going wrong at the Jays pitchers lab.
George Springer and Danny Jansen homered for the Jays who are tied for the second wild card spot with Houston.
In a battle of the top two teams in baseball, the Atlanta Braves edged the Tampa Bay Rays, 2-1.
Sean Murphy hit a two-run homer in the 4th. Wander Franco homered for Tampa in the bottom of the first. The Rays have lost 7 of 10.
Former Yankee Jameson Taillon came back to New York and helped the Chicago Cubs to a 3-0 shutout. That’s the first win in interleague play ever for the Cubbies in New York. They had gone 0-12 before last night.
Boston dropped Oakland, 7-3. Nick Pivetta pitched five innings of relief to pick up the win.
Baltimore over Minnesota, 3-1. Ramon Urias hit a two-run double in the top of the 9th.
Milwaukee stopped Cincinnati, 7-3 to move a game behind the Reds for top spot in the NL Central. Willy Adames hit a two-run homer for the Brewers. Joey Votto had a two-run shot for the Reds.
In CFL football, the Winnipeg Blue Bombers improved to 4-1 as they downed Calgary, 24-11.
