The City of Summerside’s Technical Services department issued $27.4 million in building permits in May, pushing the total for this year so far to over $46.9 million. That boost in development across the city is pointing to what could end up being a record year for the City in construction and new projects. Mayor Dan Kutcher says the significant developments in the residential and commercial sectors across Summerside show high levels of confidence in the vibrancy in the local economy now and for the future. He adds that with over 191 housing starts this year alone, Summerside is on pace to start building more residential units than ever before – bucking the provincial trend of a slowdown in housing starts.
