Former MLA and Lieutentant Governor Marion Reid has died at the age of 94. Reid was first elected to the provincial legislature in 1979 in the District of 1st Queens. She was re-elected in 1982 and 1986. Reid would become the first female Speaker of the PEI Legislative Assembly. She also served as Deputy Speaker and Opposition House Leader, In 1990 she became the first female Lieutenant Governor of PEI. Current Lieutenant Governor Antoinette Perry issued a statement on Thursday saying Reid was
deeply and passionately committed to her duties and responsibilities as Lieutenant Governor of PEI from 1990-1995. In recognition of former Lieutenant Governor Reid, the flags at Government House will be lowered to half-mast until after her funeral service.
