Pat Sinnott has resigned as a member and chair of the UPEI Board of Governors. Sinnott’s resignation was announced by the University in an email sent on Wednesday to students, faculty, and staff. That message indicated that the UPEI Board of Governors is committed to refreshing its membership as per the recommendation in the Rubin Thomlinson report.
The email said that Sinnott had resigned and that Andrew Bartlett has indicated he will step aside as a member. The message added that there are seven vacancies on the 26-person Board of Governors, and the Executive Committee will work with University stakeholders to fill them as soon as possible. Two new members have joined the Board in the last six months, and the Board will elect a new chair at a meeting in the coming days.
The University says the UPEI Board of Governors will further undertake a governance review to ensure members receive appropriate information to make evidence-based decisions that are in the best interest of the University community and aligned with the University’s values.
