Peter Bevan-Baker has announced that he is stepping down as Leader of the Green Party of PEI. Baker made the announcement at the Green Party’s annual general meeting on Saturday in North Rustico. The 61-year old Bevan-Baker said he’s stepping down for personal reasons and is looking forward to spending more time with family. Bevan-Baker will continue to serve as the MLA for District 17 New Haven – Rocky Point, and will remain Leader until a successor is chosen. Bevan-Baker’s decision to resign as Leader comes after the April election when his Green Party won only two seats and dropped to Third Party status. Bevan-Baker was first elected to the legislature in 2015, and was re-elected in 2019 and then again this past April.
