Charlottetown City Council has voted to form a city-led response team to deal with encampments of homeless people. Councilor Kevin Ramsay says it’s an effort to be proactive, as opposed to reactive.
It’s not yet clear who will be on the team or what the team will do to address the issue.
This past winter, the City had an encampment at the Charlottetown Events Grounds dismantled, pointing to safety concerns after there was a small fire at the encampment.
It was about that time when the Park Street Emergency Shelter established by the province opened up with space for 50 people.
