The federal government is providing $11.6 million for rehabilitation work in the PEI National Park to prepare it for the tourism season.
PEI Environment Minister Steven Myers spoke to the federal minister in Ottawa which paved the way for the funding. Malpeque MP Heath MacDonald made the announcement on Friday. The money will be used for the post Hurricane Fiona clean up.
Part of the funding will be used to repair the dune system in Dalvay.
Some work is being done on campsites with 16 sites lost in Cavendish.
Camping will resume on Tuesday this week.
Robinson’s Island is closed to vehicles but people who walk or bike can access the site as work continues.
A lot of work is needed in any case to repair the damaged dune system around the park.
There is also funding for sites in Stanhope and Oceanview and repairs being made to the Gulf Shore Parkway.
