Charlottetown Police Services has a new 4 legged member, Captain – a facility dog that will support the mental health and wellbeing of officers. Captain was donated to Charlottetown Police Services by an organization called Canine Therapy for First Responders.
Captain is a nine month old male Golden Retriever, and will receive intensive training over the next 18 months. Initially, Captain will be used at the Police Station providing comfort and affection to Officers, Dispatchers and other support staff. He will also attend community events, Schools, Nursing Homes and other first responder facilities.
In time, and once training complete, he will be used to support victims of crime.
