Belfast -Murray River MLA Darlene Compton elected Speaker

As the new session of the PEI legislature opened on Friday, Belfast-Murray River MLA Darlene Compton was elected as Speaker of the Legislative Assembly.  Compton becomes the 69^th Speaker of the PEI Legislature, and the 6^th woman to serve in the position. Premier Dennis King also announced the Government Caucus leadership positions.  Kensington-Malpeque MLA Matthew MacKay will serve as Government House Leader; and Charlottetown-Winsloe MLA Zack Bell will be Government Whip and Caucus Chair.  Morell-Donagh MLA Sidney MacEwen will serve as Deputy Speaker.
