The Queen Elizabeth Hospital is undergoing an electrical upgrade on Thursday from 8am to 8pm. During that time, the emergency department will have less clinical space to treat patients as well as reduced access to electrical outlets needed for medical equipment.
As a result, there could be longer wait times for less urgent needs for those who go to the emergency department.
To reduce pressure on the emergency department during the outage and to provide access to care outside the department for the public, services have been increased in primary care and mental health.
Walk-in clinics have been added at the Sherwood Drug Mart Clinic. Mobile Mental Health Response Service has added an additional shift from 10 p.m. on Wednesday to 10 a.m. Thursday to help aid people in mental health crisis leading up to and during the upgrade.
Emergency Departments at Prince County Hospital and Kings County Memorial Hospital will be open as scheduled.
