Northumberland Ferries says it has secured the MV Saaremaa 1 again for a portion of this season for the ferry services between Wood Islands and Caribou. The MV Saaremaa has been secured for a period stretching from the end of June until the middle of October 2023. The MV Saaremaa 1, which is owned by STQ out of Quebec, was also used for the Wood Islands – Caribou run last year after a fire knocked the MV Holiday Island out of service. The MV Saaremaa 1 will be completing a mandatory drydocking and maintenance period in Quebec during the month of June and then will immediately sail to Caribou to get ready for the PEI – Nova Scotia run. The charter arrangement for MV Saaremaa 1 has an emergency recall provision for the vessel in the event of a mechanical disruption occurring with a vessel on one of STQ’s ferry routes.
