The UPEI Faculty Association has sent letters to all of the provincial political parties raising concerns about what it calls “the chronic
underfunding of post-secondary education in Prince Edward Island.”
The Faculty Association and its members went on strike March 20th, and it says that throughout collective bargaining, the UPEI Board of Governors has repeatedly claimed that UPEI simply does
not have sufficient financial resources to provide adequate working and learning conditions, and any negotiated improvements to UPEI’s collective agreement must be paid for by increasing student tuition.
The UPEI Faculty Association says it’s disappointed that recently-released election platforms have not acknowledged or addressed the seriousness of the problems facing PEI’s post-secondary institutions, and believes it is imperative that the political parties commit to providing an adequate level of postsecondary funding.
