It’s a break from the action in the 2023 Canada Winter Games being held across PEI. Today is an off day as athletes arrive for the second week and depart after the first week.
Quebec led the first week with 78 medals including 31 gold.
BC is next with 52 medals and 21 gold.
Ontario has 45 in total and Alberta has 43.
PEI and Nunavut didn’t win a medal but the Island girls ringette team came close, losing a 5-4 overtime heartbreaker to Saskatchewan in the bronze medal game.
Premier Dennis King says in a Facebook post “I could not be more proud of such a strong group of players.” He says the team brought pride and joy to the province – enough to last a lifetime.
PEI was coached by Francois Caron who is also deeply proud of the effort made by his players.
