Mark Ardenz lit the Canada Games Cauldron on Sunday
The Canada Games competition began Sunday PEI’s highlights will be on Ocean 100 weekdays, at 8.05 each morning and highlights throughout the day.
The 29th edition of the Games began on Saturday night with the opening ceremonies at the Eastlink Centre before a capacity crowd.
The cauldron for the Games was lit Sunday afternoon as the IlumiNATION Festival began outside Founder’s Food Hall and Market. PEI Paralympic star Mark Arendz lit the flame that will burn for the next two weeks during the Games.
The Games continue over the next two weeks across the Island. The forecast economic impact from the Canada Games is $100 million. PEI also hosted the Winter Games in 1991 and the Summer Games in 2009.
This year the Games include karate, mixed doubles curling and women’s boxing for the first time among the 20 sports
