The Opposition Greens are calling on the King Government to take action on hunger. The Opposition says food prices on PEI have gone up more than 10% just this year alone, and Islanders are struggling with the high costs of putting food on their tables. The Opposition is urging Premier King to increase the minimum wage to $15.21 early next year; increase social assistance rates, including an increase to supports for Islanders living with a disability; introduce tax breaks for the lowest income earners in PEI and create a more equitable tax system; make the Seniors’ Food Program pilot permanent and expand it to include all of PEI; and give more money to Island food banks.
